What’s Your Differentiator?

Don’t go to interview without a strategy..

Cannot rely on telling the interviewer everything and hoping that she will remember them all.

She will not remember them all because she has bad short term memory.

You want her to remember 3 things about you 3 amazing things to differentiate you from other candidates.

So this is how you strategize. First you have to think who are likely to be your competitors for the job.

And then you have to think what 3 amazing things will make you better than your competitors.

For example, I helped someone prepare for an interview last year for a manager’s role at a global level.

We guessed who might be his competitors and then came up with 3 things that can differentiate him.

  • He has previous experience as a manager (not everyone has managerial experience)
  • He has led 2 important cross-functional projects (no one else has done this)
  • He has done 2 major product launches (not everyone has done product launches)

He went into the interview with those 3 things as his main weapon, his main key differentiators. He had a great interview and he got the job. Now he’s a manager at a global level.

So strategize before going for your interview.

  • Who are your competitors?
  • What 3 things will differentiate you
