Tell me about yourself.
The most used opening interview question.
I coach people to give a short 1-2 minute answer describing what they do now, one or two key professional achievements and why they are interested in the role. To whet the appetite. To invite the interviewer to ask more questions, tanya soalan lagi.
So let me tell you about myself. But this is not an interview. So it won’t be short or professional.
- I’m half Chinese, half Malay. My beautiful Chinese mother was adopted by a Malay family.
- My first job was in the storeroom of Tat Sing selipar jepun factory. Very humbling experience.
- In school, my favorite band was A-ha from Norway. Take On Me best song ever.
- I duduk oversea for 27 years in England, Scotland, Wales, Germany and US.
- My apartment in New York City was 10 minutes walk away from Times Square.
- I lost my scuba diving instructor during a training dive in England. Tak tau la macam mana I survived.
- I can make an awesome cempedak cake.
- I cry a lot. I cry watching movies. I cry watching Korean dramas. #hatitisu
- I dislocated my left elbow when I fell on hard ice during a snowboarding trip in France.
- I dah pernah try makan fried grasshoppers in Mexico. Crispy and crunchy.
- I lost my beautiful mother in IKEA Bristol. Thank god we managed to find her.
There you go. Now you know me more better than some of my friends.
