The most used opening interview question.
So you must be prepared to answer this very question.
I coach people to give a short 1-2 minute answer. To include what they do now, one or two key professional achievements and why they are interested in the role. To whet the appetite. To invite the interviewer to ask more follow up questions.
So let me tell you about myself.
But my answers bukan untuk interview ya.
1. What is your earliest memory?
I remembered that I stayed with a family friend (Makcik Esah Kassim) for a few days when my little brother was born. I was 4 years old.
2. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I can hold grudges for a long time. If someone hurt me, then I will carry this for a long time. I am getting better at letting go but more work needs to be done.
3. What was your most embarrassing moment?
I once had a mental block on stage while presenting. I lost my train of thought and really couldn’t remember what I was suppose to say. Tak ingat langsung. I apologise if you were there and had to listen to my gibberish.
4. Aside from a property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?
My car. I love my Tiguan. Very well behaved.
5. What makes you unhappy?
When I see people not realising their potential and too stubborn to make a change. So sad.
6. What is your most unappealing habit?
I am quite messy in my condo. Bersepah sana-sini.
7. What scares you about getting older?
Getting sick and having to spend time alone in hospital.
8. What was the last lie that you told?
I don’t tell lies. Boleh percaya ke?
9. What is your guiltiest pleasure?
I can eat a whole jar of caramel popcorn if no one is watching. Tak boleh stop.
10. What do you owe your parents?
Everything. My handsome dad died in 2010 and my beautiful mum died last year. I owe them for letting me explore the world and be successful. Al fatihah untuk arwah abah dan mak tersayang.
11. What is the worst job you’ve done?
During my primary school holidays, I worked in an onion and potatoes sorting factory in Kepong. We have to separate the rotting ones from the good ones. So yucky and the onion smell sticks to everything.
12. If not yourself, who would you most like to be?
James Bond because why not?
13. When did you last cry, and why?
3 days ago. I was volunteering at a centre for Alzheimer’s patients. The makcik I was talking too reminded me so much of my beautiful mother. I cried after the session.
14. What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
A personal on-demand chef who can cook all my favorite food
15. What has been your closest brush with the law?
Apart from traffic police, I am a very good citizen.
