Myself first, family & very good friends second, then work. That’s how I set my priorities. My own way la.
Here is my logic. If I’m sick, then I cannot look after my family and I definitely cannot do any work. If family is not happy, then will be hard to focus on work. If work is not happy, then have to work harder la.
For my physical health, I do CrossFit religiously almost every day. Normal routine is the 610pm class at CrossFit Vidatha so by 530 I pray that I don’t get any last minute work because I must cabut already to beat the traffic to get there in time.
For my mental health, I practice meditation as best as I could. So about 10 mins every morning I use the Calm app for a quick medication to quieten the mind ahead of a busy day. 10minit je. I also have a counsellor that I see on a need to basis. Quite frequently around the time of my mother’s death and now less frequently.
For general happiness, like a true Malaysian, I love makan-makan and holidays. KL is full of abundant choices for delicious food and for my holidays the rule is to not check the email at all during the holidays.
For my next holiday, (which starts tonight) inspired by a post by my friend Christiano Silva, I’m going to use this out of office message.
“I am on annual leave for 2 weeks. Please WhatsApp me if it is super urgent. If not please resend the email when I am back from my annual leave”.
Do you think it will work? Dunno la but I will cuba try.
