I took 2 trains and 1 bus to get to work when I was living in London. One train from home to central London, then another train from central London to north of London and then a bus to the office. Sejam setengah one way tau!. That’s what I told the mentee during my first Primed For Success mentoring evening last month.
He was concerned that his new job might be inconvenient to get to because he doesn’t have his own car or motorbike. I told him not to worry about the transportation. Get the job first and then he can figure out the transportation part. It will work out somehow insyallah. Najmi Razak shared during last week’s mentoring session that he is currently commuting from Taiping to Penang every day. I didn’t even know it is possible to do that!
When I moved to Germany I was given an apartment that was quite far from the office. I didn’t have a car, so I bought a bicycle. In the US, my commute from New York City to Danbury was also about 1 hour each way. I used the commuting time to listen to TED talks and also do phone meetings.
Usually for the job that we really want, we have to make some kind of compromise. It’s not often that we find the perfect job from all aspects. When you do find one, keep it!!
I love my current job. My commute now in KL is about 15mins (don’t hate me). Cukup-cukup for one TED talk.
