You are writing for a general audience and bukan your professor who is marking your work.
You want it to make simple so LinkedIn readers can understand it. For the university essay you want to make it sound smart and sophisticated to impress your professor.
For LinkedIn, you want to make it short so that it is easy to read. For the university essay, you add words to make it longer to reach the minimum word count limit.
