During the climb to the puncak of Gunung Kinabalu, I never thought about quitting.
Not even when I was climbing alone in the dark of the morning with only other people’s head torches guiding my way.
Not even when I can hardly catch my breath because the air was so thin at the high altitude of 4,000m.
My mission was clear – I am going to reach the summit. Aku nak sampai ke puncak.
I was telling myself, if other people can do it, then Mohd Azhar Ahmad pun boleh. I just have to keep the focus and figure out a way to climb the last few hundred metres.
So it’s back to the ‘one step at a time’. Or in this case about 10-20 steps at a time, and then stop to catch my breath again. Repeat and repeat.
Tak tau la dari mana tapi boleh dengar suara my CrossFit coach menjerit ‘short breaks only, short breaks only’.
When I finally reached the summit, my fitter friends were there already enjoying their hot coffee from the flask.
We all have huge beaming smile on our faces. We have different speed but we all accomplished our mission.
Semua sampai ke puncak.
All these are applicable in everyday life too in whatever you are aiming for.
- Have a clear target of what you want to achieve
- If other people can do it, you can do it too
- Stay focus on your target and think one step at a time
- Maintain your own speed to reach the target.
