How to delegate tasks is the no 1 problem that all new managers will have.

They are so used to doing all the work themselves that when they have a team to manage they just dont know how to delegate. Tak reti nak delegate.

Some will feel a bit guilty asking their team to do the work. Some will feel I can do it myself faster.

Doing it yourself will be fine in the short term but not for the longer term because more and bigger responsibilities will be heading into your lap.

So how do you start delegating?

First, you must identify the strength of each of team member. Then you will know who would be the most suitable person for you to delegate the task to.

The second is to set a clear objective of what you want to achieve. Ini supaya tak ada salah paham what is the expected result.

The third is to set an appropriate amount of checking in to see how it is going. This would be different for different individuals. Some prefer frequent checkins, some prefer to be left alone.

The fourth is to be more tolerant of failure. Nothing is more frustrating than a manager that doesn’t allow any failure. This would discourage people from taking any risk or try new ideas because they know it is not safe. They would just wait for the manager to tell them exactly what to do.

How to delegate is a major problem for new managers but don’t worry, there are some steps that you can take to make you be more better at delegation.
