I’m half Chinese and I cannot speak Mandarin
Does that mean I am half banana?
My beautiful mother was adopted when she was around 2 years old. It was around the time during World War II when many Chinese families had to give away their children for safety reason. I think she was Hokkien because the area where she is from (Sungai Lembing) is a Hokkien area.
Since coming back to Malaysia 5 years ago I have been more interested in the Chinese part of me. Finding out more about the rich Chinese culture. I didn’t know before how superstitious the Chinese society is, I thought only Malays have all kinds of pantang-larang. Rupanya sama je!
I also didn’t know how diverse Chinese food is because living abroad Chinese food means egg fried rice and chicken chow mein. Now I love eating mala to make my mouth go numb and give me salted egg yolk buns anytime. The more meleleh the more better.
So today I am also happy that it is the Chinese New Year. Apparently, this year is a good year for Rat so I’m looking forward to an amazing year. And the ong colour for me is gold, blue and green. Blue and green should be no problem, gold I’m not sure how to incorporate that into my wardrobe.
Happy Lunar New Year everyone. Gong Xi Fa Cai. Wishing you a healthy and prosperous year ahead.
