This can of 100plus cost RM10, yes that’s right 10 ringgit cekik darah betul, and I manage to get it for free.
I was at a nyonya wedding 2 weekends ago at a top hotel in Melaka. Lovely hotel by the riverside near Jonkers Street. Beautiful setting in the courtyard, guests in gorgeous batik and kebaya, food and drinks fully catered. Syok betul.
One of my friends however was not feeling so great. Dia kena cirit-birit the night before and was still recovering, but really wanted to attend the wedding still. He wanted some 100plus for some hydration.
So I pun pergila to the drinks area and asked for one can and the staff said sorry it’s not included in the wedding menu so I would have to pay for it. Although the bride and groom were spending thousands there that night they said tak boleh bagi 100 plus for free. Satu je pun tak boleh.
I had 2 options. Easy one just pay that damn RM10. Harder way practice my negotiation skill and get that for free. Of course I had to choose the harder way. After 4 rounds of negotiations with 4 different staff and 20 minutes later I finally got it for free!
I happily walked back to my table to announce dengan bangganya my victory and then I saw that there was already another can of 100plus there. Another friend just paid the RM10. Ah, well now we have 2 cans.
Moral of the story – always practice your negotiation skill. You’ll never know when you might need it. Especially after the election.
