Imagine this. Stuck in an elevator with the CEO of the company and all I could say was ‘Hi’. Omg so so embarrassing and a wasted opportunity to introduce myself. Rugi betul.
I was leaving work late that evening. I went to the lift area and waited for the lift. The lift came down from the 7th floor (the CEO floor), the lift door opened and the CEO was already in the lift. Do I go in or not go in? Of course, I had to go in la. Takkan tak nak masuk? I was furiously thinking about something smart & intelligent to say to him and all that came out from my mouth was a soft ‘Hi’. I slapped my face afterwards for being so dumb haha.
I heard about ‘elevator pitch’ before but never thought I would need it. And there was I having a highly sought after 1 to 1 opportunity with the CEO of the company and I didn’t grab it because I wasn’t prepared. Who knows maybe I dah jadi the CEO by now if only I had said more than just a Hi…
If you haven’t heard of this phrase, basically it means a short powerful introduction about yourself if you only have about 30 seconds. Elevator, or lift in Malaysia, ride doesn’t really take much longer than that. Sekejap je. Unless you are unlucky enough to be stuck in a lift for which you will have tons of time haha. (I have been stuck in a lift before and it was not funny).
The answer should be a little bit like your answer to the interview question of Tell Me About Yourself. Only it has to be shorter than that!
So if you haven’t got one, then write one now! You never know when you are going to meet your CEO in the elevator!
