Data presentation is always boring.
That is not true. It is up to us to figure out how to tell a story about the data.
First you have to be clear about what is the key message that you want to present. Then you put only the data that is related to that key message onto your slide. Data-data yang tak penting boleh diremovekan.
Once you have chosen the right data to use, you can improve the visualisation with animation or transition. I love the morph transition function on powerpoint. It is really amazing so do check it out. Banyak tutorials dalam Youtube on how to use it.
Then you should help the audience understand the data better, give it more meaning by having a comparator reference.
For example, in the early days of the pandemic, I did a presentation about the COVID19 vaccines and shared the data that at that time 250,000 people have died from the infection. And this is similar to the number of people who died in the horrific Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. It gave more context on the gravity of the situation.
So next time you are presenting some data:
- Be clear about the key messages.
- Use only relevant data.
- Improve visualization with animation or transition.
- Use a comparator reference.
