
How to deliver interview results to internal candidates.
As a manager, you will have to do this one day.
If it’s good news, then senang la.
Tell them they got the job and that’s it.
If it’s bad news, then itu susah sikit
Must be done with some good preparation beforehand.
First, make sure that you have a clear reason for not selecting the candidate. You have already discussed this with the other interviewer and you all have agreed on the reasons for not selecting the candidates.
Deliver this in a clear and concise way. Don’t beat around the bush. The candidate is already anxious waiting for the interview results so just let them know the outcome and the reason behind it.
Then let them know that you will be working with them on the topic concerned. Don’t use this feedback time to discuss this fully. The candidate is processing the information that they didn’t get the job so they are not in the right mind to discuss it any further. Let them know that you will schedule another time to discuss the development plan.
In terms of timing, I prefer to schedule it before lunchtime or just before 5 pm so that they can go out or go home if the emotions are running high.
