Which is more important? Being happy or being right?
Some of you might ask boleh tak I have both? Sadly this is not possible all the time
Have you been in an argument when you are 100% convinced that you are right only to discover later that you were not? For example, you are adamant that you have left your wallet in a restaurant and you demanded that your friend turn around and drive back to the restaurant, sekali tengok the wallet is at the bottom of your gym back hidden underneath your sweaty gym towel? Your friend geleng kepala je.
How about when you are getting angry that your colleague hasn’t answered your email yet and you marched up to her first thing on Monday morning asking for an explanation or even worse you send an angry email asking why hasn’t she done her work, only to find out that she hasn’t received your email because it is still in your draft folder and you didn’t press send? Alamak malunya.
These are just a couple of examples of when our brain tricked us into believing that we are right. And I’m sure you all have other similar experiences. Therefore when we are in an argument or disagreement with our loving spouse, our dear friends, our supportive colleagues, our amazing bosses, just pause a little bit and think is there a 1% chance that they might be right?. If there is, of course depending on the situation, just say sorry and apologise wholeheartedly. No need to gaduh-gaduh. This approach has helped me a lot in maintaining many great relationships.
So the next time you are about to start arguing with your spouse, you have 2 options.
Option 1 – Argue, win the argument, be right, and your better half is angry and gives you the silent treatment for 2 days.
Option 2 – Dont argue, say sorry, your better half is happy and takes you out for a great meal and you are also happy.
The choice is yours.
