I lived in this village in Liuli, Tanzania for 2 months.
Nearest town was a few hours drive away in a 4WD.
No 24hr electric, no running water.
I was attached to the local hospital to learn some medicine.
Most of the cases were babies and kids with malaria.
Mortality rate were high because facilities were just basic.
Doktor sorang aje dari Germany.
I still remember her name Dr Monica Gaffga.
She was there with her husband and 2 lovely sons.
The kids called me ‘mzungu’ meaning white people.
I guess anyone who wasn’t black were considered white.
They were very friendly and I spent a lot of time with them after work.
What I admire about all of them is how happy they were with their life.
It was hard of course with the basic facilities in the village.
But that didn’t stop them from finding joy in what they do.
Seeing this photo reminded me to be grateful with my life and to be joyful.
