Lost in translation. Even English to English.
I was in a networking event and having a 3 way conversation.
We were talking about our families and person A said that he has 2 daughters aged 25 and 18 and the eldest is working in America.
Person B then asked ‘Oh how old is your youngest daughter again?’ to which person A politely answered 18 years old.
Person A then asked ‘What is your daughter working as in Australia?’. Person B then answered she is in America.
At this point, in my head I’m doing a facepalm. Adoi pening kepala.
It is really important to be listening actively.
Nothing more annoying when you realised the other person is not paying full attention. Sebenarnya tak dengar pun.
So how can you be more attentive?
Focus focus focus on what the other person is saying.
Aim to paraphrase or summarise what they have just said to show them that you have been listening.
Forget about what you want to ask next, because that is when you lose focus.
